The iCookie is a tiny gadget which allows you to track and locate your belongings or pets. The device is about the size of a 2 pence coin in terms of diameter and is under 1cm in thickness. It’s a fairly minimalist item with a single tiny button which is used to connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth. On the rear is a speaker, which will help to locate the iCookie.

Setting up the iCookie is relatively easy. You’ll first have to download the application from either the iOS App Store or the Google Play Store. Connecting the device via Bluetooth isn’t done via the normal method through settings, instead you open the app you’ve just installed and pair your device and the iCookie through that. Once paired you’re ready to start using the tiny tracker.

We’ve called iCookie a tracker, but it’s actually a device to prevent you loosing items. Because it connects to your device via Bluetooth, the maximum connection distance is around 10~20 meters. This prevents you using the device as a long distance tracker. What the iCookie is good at however, is ensuring you don’t leave your phone, wallet, keys or similar items in a bar or cafe you’ve just visited. Once the distance between your phone and the iCookie increases an alarm will sound on both your phone and iCookie. This can be set to just vibrate or make a loud sound.

The device works both ways so if you happen to loose your phone then you can track it down by using the iCookie. If on the other hand you loose the iCookie (or the item it’s fixed too) you can track it down using your smartphone and the iCookie app.

Our Verdict

The iCookie is a very useful device for those who misplace items regularly. The device is discreet enough to not stand out, but not to small that you’d have trouble finding it. One major drawback however is how the iCookie gets power. There is no option to replace the battery inside the unit, and therefore once the battery is dead it renders the iCookie useless. When the battery gets low there is no alert or signal to tell you this either.

Update x1: We’ve been informed that there is an iCookie available where you can replace the battery and therefore carry on using the device after periods longer than one year.
