Today we have the Thule Pack ‘n Pedal Handlebar Wallet which is Thule’s newest product in the bike luggage range that they offer. They offer a range of different luggage options including a bag which can be used in conjunction with the wallet.

To mount this wallet onto you bike you will first need the handlebar mount which is sold separately. The mount allows the cyclist features two unique attachments onto which you can fix two bags; one facing the rider and another facing forward. It supports the wallet, bag and iPad/map sleeve. The mounting system is great for any cyclist who wished to fully utilize the handlebar space and provides a fully adjustable and secure system for mounting extra storage space. It is especially easy to install on your bike and the baggage accessories use a simple snap in/out system which makes them incredible easy to attach and remove when necessary.

Thule Pack Pedal Mount

I personally found it best to position the wallet on the rider facing mount and to leave the forward facing mount free for an accessory such as the Thule Pack ‘N Pedal Bag. The rider facing mount positions the wallet where the handlebar intersects with the stem of the bike. I found this to be a good positioning where you could access the pouch and also see through the clear window on the wallet itself. This being said it does look a little bulky on the bike and can sometimes get in the way when mounting / un-mounting your ride.

Attaching Thule wallet to mount on bike

The wallet includes a nicely sized mobile compartment which works great with GPS mobile applications when your cycling. You have to insert your phone landscape-oriented which is how most people would opt to use it in a situation like this anyway. The transparent window on the front of the wallet allows you to see the screen and touch functionality is not affected in anyway when your phone is inserted into the mobile pouch. We found that most popular smartphones fit just fine such as the iPhone 4/5/5s but for some larger devices it may be a tighter fit.

Also on the wallet is quite a well sized zipped-up compartment. Although being well sized for this type of wallet you won’t unfortunately be able to store a drinks bottle or anything of that size in there. We found it to be most useful for items such as your keys, wallet or small snacks. Also found inside this main pocket is a small mesh compartment which can be useful for loose change you don’t want rolling around in the main pocket.

Thule Wallet Open

When you first purchase the item the waterproof covering will be located in this small mesh pocket. That’s right, the waterproof cover. Unfortunately the Thule wallet is not waterproof, so if you’re thinking of going for a cycle when it’s raining heavily then you’ll want to attach the waterproof cover. It’s quite disappointing to see that if you do happen to be using the GPS on your mobile device then the waterproof cover will actually cover the transparent window rendering it useless when raining. So if you’re relying on your mobiles GPS to know where you’re going, unfortunately you’re going to have to hope it doesn’t start raining heavily.

Our Verdict

Overall the Thule Pack ‘n Pedal Handlebar Wallet is a great bike accessory. The strong and sturdy wallet is sure to stand up to any small knocks and bumps with its hard out casing. The mobile pocket comes in particular use if you wish to use the GPS facilities on your mobile and the transparent window gives you good visibility of the screen even in daylight. The large pocket is also useful for holding small items if you’re just going on a small trip and will keep them secure with sturdy zip installed.
The Thule wallet will set you back £39.99 and unfortunately the mount is not included so that will set you back another £35. This does make is quite an expensive accessory but once the mount has been purchased you need not purchase a second to attach another bag.
We definitely don’t think you’ll regret this purchase and whether you’re a regular cyclist or just do it for fun at the weekend you’re sure to find a use for it. To pick up your Pack ‘n Pedal Handlebar head over to the Thule website using the link below to find out more information.
