The Case Logic Berkeley Plus backpack is designed specifically for everyday use whether you’re commuting to school or work, or travelling abroad on your holidays. With a 27L capacity the backpack can fit much more than a single laptop inside, and weighing just 0.88kg the backpack is made to stay lightweight, even when full.
The backpack comes in a variety of different styles including Anthracite, Storm, Twilight, Wasabi and Calypso (style in images). The main material used is polyester which seems hard wearing, whilst also being aesthetically pleasing.
Firstly you’ll find a dedicated compartment for your 15.6 inch laptop. Once a laptop has been placed into this compartment and closed your device is well protected with padding on both sides. This pocket is located at the very back which means when being worn the laptop should lie flush with your back ensuring that it’s also comfortable to wear. Also on the back panel of the bag is a secure hidden pocket which is great for storing small valuables, money or even a passport if you’re travelling.
As you move down the bag you’ll find more oversized zippers which lead to more storage spaces. The next one you’ll find is another dedicated compartment for your tablet. Even with a tablet inserted there is still plenty of space in this compartment to store other items. We wouldn’t suggest putting anything too valuable in with the tablet though as there isn’t much protection or padding between the tablet pocket and the rest of the space.
The final compartment is split into multiple different pockets which makes it perfect for storing and organising lots of different items including your phone, headphones, money, cables, documents and anything else which will fit into it. Located on the side you’ll find two mesh pockets to conveniently store water bottles.
Moving onto the straps and Case Logic have cleverly included a sternum strap which if needed will provide a little extra support when carrying a heavy load. Another great feature is that the strap is both adjustable and removable so if you’re not using it you can simply take it off and put it aside.
One minor downfall we found with this backpack was that in the main laptop compartment there didn’t seem to be much padding around the bottom. After taking a closer look there is a small flap at the bottom of the compartment but unfortunately it doesn’t actually seem to stay in place which would solve this problem and offer sufficient protection. This means that if you were to drop the bag on a hard surface such as concrete you may damage the laptop as it would take the full force of the drop.
Despite a very minor flaw in the bottom padding of the laptop compartment, the Case Logic Berkeley Plus backpack is a quality product. With plenty of space for a 15.6 inch laptop, an iPad plus all your accessories such external hard drives and cables you’ll no longer need to carry around multiple bags. Instead simply pack everything into the Berkeley Plus and you’ll be good to go.
