As we’ve said before there are thousands of iPad cases around to choose from and finding the right one is a hard task, but normally just comes down to personal choice.
STM are mainly known for their bags but today we are looking at their Grip iPad case.
The case is made purely from plastic which is quite unusual but gives an extremely sturdy and strong case. Obviously you loose some of the flexibility of the case itself for example being able to fold one half to make a stand. In this instance though it isn’t a problem as the STM Grip iPad Case actually has a fixed dual-kickstand on the back.
The kickstands are particularly hard to get up using just your hands and we actually had to pry it up first time. After the first time we did find that it got much easier. The angles at which the iPad sits when the kickstand is deployed are good and is positioned well for typing & viewing. We have seen some people mention that the case was not very sturdy when in the typing position, but for us it sat well and didn’t rock at all. You’ll notice the grips on the case which double up as the grooves for the kickstands to sit in when in use.
The inside of the case is partially lined with a soft grey micro-suede material which will protect the iPad screen when the case is closed. With your iPad inserted into the case all ports and buttons remain easily accessible including the headphones jack and also the 30-pin/lightning connector. The speakers are covered by a grill instead of a section of the case being cut out. The case doesn’t use the standard magnetic lock/unlock but instead has a small softer plastic lip that latches over the iPad to keep the case closed. Your screen will also automatically lock/unlock when the front is opened and closed.
The Grip Case is compatible with the iPad 2, 3rd & 4th generation. The case measures in at 9.5 x 7.4 x 0.6 inches and weighs 272 grams.
This hard shell iPad case is very impressive in terms of protecting your device and offers 360 degree protection for your device. The case is very simple yet works surprisingly well and we find it hard to pick up on anything to improve on. The hard case is sure to protect your tablet from any scratches and bumps, while the dual-kickstand allows you to position your tablet for either viewing or typing.
