iOS 11 GM Leak Reveals Pretty Much Everything About iPhone X

iPhone 8 iOS11 GM Leak

An iOS 11 leak has revealed almost everything we need to know about the iPhone 8 which will be launched in Apple’s upcoming event on September 12th. This leak has come somewhere from within Apple and is normally issued to developers after the September event has taken place.

The Golden Master leak contains references to Apple’s replacement for Touch ID, which is now confirmed to be called “Face ID”. This will use the front-facing camera and 3D sensors for facial recognition allowing you to access your phone and authenticate Apple Pay payments.

iPhone 8 Imagery

Also included in the leak is lots of imagery which confirms rumours that the newest iPhone will ship with an edge-to-edge display with a notch at the top to house the camera and sensors.

Also revealed is the screen resolution of the new iPhone which is 2436 x 1125.

Functions previously invoked using the Home button will now be carried out through an elongated power button, known as a “side button”, previously known as sleep/wake. This will now be used to activate Siri and also bring up the Apple Wallet screen. It’s not likely that this will be a physical button but instead a capacitive button like that of the Home button on the iPhone 7.

iOS11 Horizontal Bar

We mentioned previously that the Home screen and App Switcher will be invoked using a small horizontal bar at the bottom of the display – this has now been confirmed too.

Is that all? Absolutely not! New video recording options are supposedly coming too. These include:

  • 1080p HD at 240fps 480 MB with 1080p HD at 240fps
  • 4K at 24 fps (Footer) 270 MB with 4K at 24 fps (film style) (HEVC Footer) 135 MB with 4K at 24 fps (film style)
  • 4K at 60 fps (Footer) 450 MB with 4K at 60 fps (higher resolution, smoother) (HEVC Footer) 400 MB with 4K at 60 fps (higher resolution, smoother)

New portrait mode effects will be introduced to including “Portrait Lighting” mode. This new feature will support Contour Light, Natural Light, Stage Light, Stage Light Mono, and Studio Light modes.

Lastly iOS 11 will come packed with lots of new wallpapers. They’ve all been designed with the OLED display in mind so they’re bound to look great!
